Norahs ran UEM Charity Run 2016

The UEM Charity Run, this was the race I wanted to DNS from the beginning but I still went to it (the decision was made last night before I attended KPAC dinner).
The parking was a big issue. There was no parking near the start line. I had to park very far and walked to the start line. I walked about 2km (power walking) to the start line. It became my warm-up before the race. Most of my running buddies sign-up for 21km and a few of them joined 12km race. I was the only one went for the shortest distance race.

I was glad that I didn't sign-up for 21 as I was struggling to maintain my pace below 5mins for such a shory distance race. My body and legs felt heavy. I didn't give up and I tried my best to go forward. Yes, I tried my best and finally crossed the finish line!
This was not my best 6km race but I already tried my best. :) Glad that I did not DNS and I went for it. I hope I'll back to training very soon. Haze, please go away!

Press Release: STANDARD CHARTERED KL MARATHON ELEVATES COMPETITION AND IMPROVES RUNNING EXPERIENCE

KUALA LUMPUR, 9th March 2016: Race owner and organiser of the Standard Chartered KL Marathon 2016 (SCKLM), Dirigo Events announced today that runner’s registration will begin from Tuesday, 15th March 2016. This year marks SCKLM’s eighth installation and will take place on Sunday, 7th August at Dataran Merdeka, Kuala Lumpur.

A new staggered registration system will be introduced to ensure a better registration experience for runners as it simplifies the online registration process and lessens the chances of web-traffic congestion.

In addition, participants of SCKLM 2015 will be given priority to register for the 2016 event due to last year’s race cancellation caused by the haze. Further details of the staggered registrations can be found on www.kl-marathon.com or the Standard Chartered KL Marathon Facebook page.

Apart from the staggered registration system, the official cut-off time of the full marathon has been extended to 7 hours to reduce route congestion. A checkpoint system, commonly practised in international marathons, will also be implemented this year. Runners will need to reach each checkpoint within a designated time or will be shuttled back to Dataran Merdeka.

Other initiatives to look forward to this year include the Friendship Run and Pasta Party, which will be held on the eve of the race. Opened only to Full Marathon participants, the event aims to foster camaraderie amongst runners from around the world.

The Standard Chartered KL Marathon has grown to become Malaysia’s premier running event that draws thousands of local and international runners to navigate a route covering beautiful and historical landmarks around the city of Kuala Lumpur” said Rainer Biemans, Director of Dirigo Events. “We hope that these additions will not only improve participant and fan experience but elevates the Marathon’s level of competition”.

Mahendra Gursahani, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Standard Chartered Bank Malaysia adds, “We are proud to return as title sponsors of such an iconic sporting event. The marathon, along with its additions, showcases a perfect example of Standard Chartered’s dedication to sporting brilliance. This devotion is displayed in the Bank’s
dedication to building trust through continuity, credibility, competence and skill in the field of
sports”.

This year’s participating beneficiaries for Run For A Reason are Standard Chartered Foundation (SCF), Hospis Malaysia, Yayasan Sejahtera and IJN Foundation.

The 2016 Standard Chartered KL Marathon is once again made possible by title sponsor Standard Chartered Bank, and along with event owner and organiser, Dirigo Events Sdn. Bhd. and co-organiser Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur.

My Running Journey: What's On - January 2015

Kick of the year of 2015, I joined my very first run in The Multi-Purpose Insurans Bhd Run 2015 (MPIB) on 11/1/2015. This was my 3rd year joining the run. In 2013, I joined the 8km category and year 2014 I joined the 12km category.
This year, I joined the 12km category again. I was trying my best to enjoy this annual run as I just recovered from injury not too long ago. Furthermore, SCHKM is coming up in 2 weeks time.
That was me running towards the finishing line and finish strong in 65mins. :) Photos were taken from ET, RFF, Run&Explore and Victor. It was a good run except for the the long loo queues before the run.
Well, it was an under-distance run as my Garmin Forerunner 210 showed 11.65km. Min. Elevation: 36m and Max. Elevation: 104km.
Not too bad as I managed to PB last year's timing and rank 13 in my category. I'll be back for 2016!

I only joined two races in January 2015, the major race was Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon 2015 (SCHKM) on 25/1/2015. This was my first full marathon for this year and it is also my first fm in oversea. Everyone was telling me that SCHKM is a PB marathon and it is easy to run there at cooling temperature. I was looking forward to this run and hope to finish this marathon with a good timing.

Race kit collection at Victoria Park, HK.
The preparation before the big race...Top: LYN new pink-T and Uniqlo heattech, Shorts: 2XU Compression shorts, Shoe: Saucony Virrata 2 and of course my lucky cap.
The Marathon Run 1 category started at 6.40am (Yes, it was quite late for me to run a marathon at this hour) at Nathan Road, Tsim Sha Tsui. My 1st 10km, 21km and 30km was awesome. However, I got the neck pain at KM32 which slow me down and the worst was "hit-the-wall" at KM37. :( I was walking in the last tunnel and wanted to give up. I was very moody and wanted to cry. But, I aksed myself, "Sharon, why are you here? What you want to achieve? Want to give up now? Want to walk all the way back? Want to regret after the race???" . My answers to myself was "NO! I don't want these!!!". Thank God, I managed to "stand-up" from the "hit-the-wall" condition and run towards the finishing line.
Finally I completed the SCHKM in 4hours 10mins (Not my PB marathon timing) at Victoria Park.
