Review: ASICS fuzeX™ (Spring 2016)

ASICS is a Japanese athletic equipment company which manufacturers a wide range of footwear and also sports equipments. For runners, they are well known for their many running range.Adding to the new range, ASICS has introduced the fuzeX™ and has brought in the new fuzeX™ shoes to the Malaysian market recently.
Asics fuzeX™ is a daily neutral trainer for runners. The fuzeX™ footwear is featuring  fuzeGEL,  a  new  lightweight  midsole developed  by  ASICS  Institute  of  Sport  Science1 in  Kobe,  Japan. It combines lightness and protection with a sleek three-dimensional curved design.
Some of the features of Asics fuzeX™:
fuzeGEL™:
A unique composition of regular midsole material and  GEL  to  promote  a  smooth  and  comfortable  gait  by  absorbing  shock  upon  impact  and propelling runners forward on repulsion.
Seamless Construction:
The use of seamless materials reduces the potential for irritation and friction caused by traditional stitches and seams.
AHAR+ Outsole:
A blown AHAR rubber outsole material with high abrasion-resistant qualities for added durability, combined with a comfortable, cushioned ride.
Comfordry Sockliner:
Removable sockliner that provides cushioning performance and moisture wicking for a cooler, dryer, healthier environment.

Product Info:
Stack Height:
24mm heel
16mm forefoot
8mm heel-toe offset
fuzeX™: 8.40z (Women’s Size 7)
Available colours in Malaysia:
Men:
Blue/Indigo, Blue/Hot Orange , Cherry tomato/White/Estate Blue, Flash Yellow/Black
Women:
Titanium/Azalea/Black, Turquoise/Sharp Green/Ink, Silver/Min/orchid

My first impression of fuzeX™:
Unboxing the ASICS fuzeX™ for the first time, I was pleased by the attractive colour, Turquoise/Sharp Green/Ink.
When I put the fuzeX™ on, they're quite light and comfortable. I noticed fuzeX™ toe box is narrower than usual running shoes and if you have wide feet, you might want to consider a half size larger.
The Verdit:
Running in the FuzeX™ requires some break in time. I would recommend doing some short run and gradually increasing it. For my break in period, I walked around the park for 2km before I gave them a try in a slow short 5km run. Till date, I've accumulated over 60km in this shoes ranging from 5km to 16km. I ran in it on different terrain ranging from asphalt surface, pavements and on the beach. The fuzeX™ gives quite good grip on wet surfaces.

I found the shoe to be responsive and have not experience any foot pain nor blisters. I feel comfortable wearing them for my longer runs. The fuzeX™ has a snug feet feel to it and does not feel tight on the heels. It is snug enough to stop small stones and sand from getting inside the shoe while I was running at Desaru beach. The shoe has moderate support, cushioning was there and feels responsive throughout my runs.

I would recommend this shoe to those who are looking for comfort shoes for their runs. The fuzeX™ is currently available in stores for RM459 and you can grab it at your nearest ASICS outlets.

Reebok Spartan Race Malaysia / Singapore 2015

Are you ready for the world’s leading obstacle racing series,Spartan RaceYes, the Reebok Spartan Race is coming to Malaysia and Singapore in October and November, respectively.

As I know the Spartan Race is a series of challenging obstacle races that involve running, climbing, and crawling to carry ourself through all the obstacles to reach the finish line. This race gonna test our strength, balance, mental tenacity and endurance.

Let's find out more about the  Reebok Spartan Race!
A little bit background about this race...

Spartan Race, voted Outside Magazine’s Best Obstacle Race, is the world’s leading obstacle racing series and the first of its kind to feature timing and global rankings. With over 130 events in 17 countries during 2014 alone, Reebok Spartan Race has made obstacle racing one of the fastest growing sports in the world. The global event series features races at three distances, 5+ km/15+ Obstacle Sprint, 13+ km/20+ Obstacle Super and 20+ km/ 25+ Obstacle Beast, culminating each year in the Spartan World Championship.
Spartan Race is not your average race! While you are certainly familiar with everyday run-of-the-mill running races, the Spartan Race is like their adventurous, adrenaline-junkie friend who thrives on excitement.

Not only will you be running, climbing, and crawling across unknown terrain, but you’ll also get to splash through mud, tackle many unique and challenging obstacles, test your overall strength, balance, mental tenacity and endurance, and finish with a fiery leap of victory!

It’s probably one of the most exciting, invigorating and thrilling ways you can choose to spend your weekend.
Imagine a large area of outdoor terrain. It might be sandy or muddy. It could be a hilly meadow or a forest. It could be anything. Throw in a few hills here and there, and maybe a river or a lake sits in the middle of this.

We’ll put a course that runs through and around the area. Then, we’ll put some obstacles in the way. Obstacles that will make you climb, crawl or carry yourself over, through and past them.
If you fail one of these obstacles, you do 30 burpees and then you continue.
There are 3 main types of races:
1.) SPARTAN SPRINT : 5+ kilometres and 15+ obstacles (for beginners)
2.) SPARTAN SUPER : 13+ kilometres and 20+ obstacles
3.) SPARTAN BEAST : 20+ kilometres and 25+ obstacles

There is also SPARTAN JUNIOR, 0.75 to 2+ kilometres  and 7 to 14+ obstacles

Salomon X-Scream 3D Launch in Malaysia & My First Impressions of X-Scream 3D

Last Saturday, I was invited to attend the Salomon X-Scream 3D Launch in the Apartment, KLCC. I was pretty excited to find out more about the Salomon's new city trail shoes. The Salomon X-Scream 3D is the latest shoe from Salomon's City Trail range.
The new Salomon X-Scream 3D for men (Gecko green/bright red/black) and women (Hot pink/mystic purple/white).

Salomon introduces the evolution of everyday training with X-Scream 3D. As the embodiment of Salomon's City Running Concept, X-Scream 3D provides ample ride and cushioning for everyday running on hard paths and roads, but with superior foothold and grip to ensure agility for diverse movements on multiple surfaces. For runners who want to break away from the same routine, X-Scream 3D delivers the foothold, grip and ride to let you make every run an adventure.
During the launch event, I was given a pair of Salomon X-Scream 3D in Hot pink/mystic purple/white to test run with invited media members and bloggers. My first impressions of  Salomon X-Scream 3D are light, quite cushioning and comfortable. It is easy to wear with just one-pull tightening the shoe lace and store the shoe lace in lace pocket. I was wearing size 7 Salomon X-Scream 3D and this pair of city trail shoe is comfortably roomy. I like lightweight running shoes and I always run in lightweight or minimalist shoes.

Now, I'm ready to join the test run session lead by Mr. Raymond, Salomon Brand Ambassadors of Malaysia.

After the briefing and warm-up sessions, we started to run around KLCC Park.
We started off  with a slow jog in the park. This was my first time running in KLCC park. A complete loop of this park is about 1.30 km.
We ran on grassy surface and  slopes in the park.

The Salomon X-Scream 3D are supportive and stable when I run on different terrain and surfaces such as rubberized track, grass, sand, concrete pavement, slopes and staircase. The 3D grip or better known as  multi-terrain grip works well when I run up & down the slopes and staircases in the KLCC park. At one point, I was actually running  below 5 minutes pace. (Thanks Marlina for this nice photo).
With YK and Karsten posing after the test run in Salomon X-Scream 3D shoe.
After the test run session, we were invited for breakfast and the product sharing session by Mr. Samuel Soong, Product Manager of Salomon.
Mr. Samuel shared with us the features and technologies used in Salomon X-Scream 3D.
Foothold in every direction
3D Fit comfortably holds your foot in place, even during dynamic directional changes. X-Scream 3D shoes begin with Salomon's well known Sensifit and Quicklace system for outstanding foothold and comfort. With the Endofit and seamless upper, this shoe feel great even without socks.

Multi-surface Grip
3D Grip ensures confidence on wet or dry, soft or hard surfaces.

Responsive ride for a dynamic run
3D Ride feels smooth and cushioned on consistent and uneven surfaces.

My Running Journey: What's On - January 2015

Kick of the year of 2015, I joined my very first run in The Multi-Purpose Insurans Bhd Run 2015 (MPIB) on 11/1/2015. This was my 3rd year joining the run. In 2013, I joined the 8km category and year 2014 I joined the 12km category.
This year, I joined the 12km category again. I was trying my best to enjoy this annual run as I just recovered from injury not too long ago. Furthermore, SCHKM is coming up in 2 weeks time.
That was me running towards the finishing line and finish strong in 65mins. :) Photos were taken from ET, RFF, Run&Explore and Victor. It was a good run except for the the long loo queues before the run.
Well, it was an under-distance run as my Garmin Forerunner 210 showed 11.65km. Min. Elevation: 36m and Max. Elevation: 104km.
Not too bad as I managed to PB last year's timing and rank 13 in my category. I'll be back for 2016!

I only joined two races in January 2015, the major race was Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon 2015 (SCHKM) on 25/1/2015. This was my first full marathon for this year and it is also my first fm in oversea. Everyone was telling me that SCHKM is a PB marathon and it is easy to run there at cooling temperature. I was looking forward to this run and hope to finish this marathon with a good timing.

Race kit collection at Victoria Park, HK.
The preparation before the big race...Top: LYN new pink-T and Uniqlo heattech, Shorts: 2XU Compression shorts, Shoe: Saucony Virrata 2 and of course my lucky cap.
The Marathon Run 1 category started at 6.40am (Yes, it was quite late for me to run a marathon at this hour) at Nathan Road, Tsim Sha Tsui. My 1st 10km, 21km and 30km was awesome. However, I got the neck pain at KM32 which slow me down and the worst was "hit-the-wall" at KM37. :( I was walking in the last tunnel and wanted to give up. I was very moody and wanted to cry. But, I aksed myself, "Sharon, why are you here? What you want to achieve? Want to give up now? Want to walk all the way back? Want to regret after the race???" . My answers to myself was "NO! I don't want these!!!". Thank God, I managed to "stand-up" from the "hit-the-wall" condition and run towards the finishing line.
Finally I completed the SCHKM in 4hours 10mins (Not my PB marathon timing) at Victoria Park.

Right: Map from SCHKM website.
Well, I ran from:
Nathan Road, Tsim Sha Tsui (near Hotel Mira) => Austin Road => Canton Road => Wui Cheung Road(E/b) => D1A(S) Road(S/b) => D1A Road => West Kowloon Highway(S/b) => Ngong Shuen Chau Viaduct(Kln/b) => Stonecutters Bridge(Kln/b) => East Tsing Yi Viaduct(Kln/b) => Nam Wan Tunnel(Kln/b) => West Tsing Yi Viaduct(Kln/b) => Tsing Ma Bridge(Kln/b) => Ting Kau Bridge(S/b) => Cheung Tsing Tunnel(Kln/b) => Tsing Kwai Highway(S/b) => West Kowloon Highway(S/b) => Western Harbour Crossing(S/b) => Connaught Road West Flyover(E/b) => Man Po Street => Man Yiu Street (S/b) => Lung Wo Road (E/b) => Fenwick Pier Street(E/b) => Convention Avenue(E/b) => Hung Hing Road => Marsh Road Flyover => Lockhart Road(E/b) => Percival Street => Hennessy Road(E/b) => Yee Wo Street(E/b) => Sugar Street => Victoria Park
Happily posing with my hard earn marathon medal! Maybe I'll be back for SCHKM 2016.
