JustNorahs Interview with King Of Comedy Asia 2, Vivek Mahbubani

Another "King" from the "Kings and Queen of Comedy Asia 2" is the funniest Chinese person in Hong Kong... an Indian, Vivek Mahbuban.

Vivek Mahbuban shocking the audience when he throws in his fluent Cantonese during English sets and vice versa. I was impressed by his fluent Cantonese during the sneak preview at the press conference of "Kings and Queen of Comedy Asia 2" ! :O

Q:  Tell us a little about your upcoming performance at Kings and Queen of Comedy Asia? What can Malaysians look forward to?

Kings and Queens of Comedy Asia will be my first time performing in Malaysia. The audience can look forward to hearing stories about me growing up amongst Chinese people who thought I was an Alien rather than Asian and how my ability to speak and understand Cantonese creates trouble (but funny trouble) for everyone.

Q: What is your biggest inspiration / your biggest motivator in your career as a comedian/ actors/ actress?

My biggest inspiration was when I started watching stand up comedy as a kid without realizing what it really was. To see a person hold a mic and just rely on his/her voice and the audience's imagination, and have the ability to make you laugh was like a miracle I wanted to experience personally. Then I started watching a lot of sitcoms like Seinfeld, Golden Girls, Home Improvement, Fresh Prince of Bela-ir, etc which made me love comedy even more. But ultimately, it's just knowing that I'm doing something that I love that keeps me motivated.

Q: Are you a naturally funny person in everyday life, offstage?

I don't consider myself naturally funny, but I'm easily bored. So if I see something over and over again, I get bored of it and in order to get myself to keep seeing the same thing, I'd come up with new angles/funny ways of seeing it, to keep myself entertained in the process. And somehow comedy finds its way into the mix.
Q: What's next for you after the Kings and Queen of Comedy Asia?

I'll be back to Hong Kong headlining gigs at TakeOut Comedy and off to Singapore for shows and will try to squeeze as many Ha Ha Ha's out of people before Christmas's Ho Ho Ho! takes over.

Q:  If any of your fans were interested in trying to be a comedian, where would you recommend and how they can begin?

Just believe in yourself. Even if you don't think you're a funny person, believe you can be funny. Being funny is an art rather than an in-born gift. The best way to start is to request yourself to start noticing interesting things in life, and from there, you'll find the funny in things over time.

Q: Would you like to send a message to your Malaysian fans?

Thank you for supporting comedy and coming out to have a great time! The more energy you have, the more energy the comedians will have and once the laughter starts, it's contagious but not lethal, so don't hold back! After all, no refunds! :)

Catch Vivek Mahbuban at the show!

JustNorahs Interview with King Of Comedy Asia 2, Paul Ogata

I was so happy to have a chance to do an email interview with  Paul Ogata, the Funniest Asian-American Comedian in the U.S.
Paul Ogata is one of the "King" for "Kings and Queen of Comedy Asia 2" on  18 & 19 November 2011 at the Plenary Hall, KLCC.
This photo was taken during the "Kings and Queen of Comedy Asia 2" Press Conference on November 15.

Q:  Tell us a little about your upcoming performance at Kings and Queen of Comedy Asia? What can Malaysians look forward to?

It's been an action-packed year, and I can't wait to tell you all about it. As the late Gorilla Monsoon from WWE used to say, "It's going to be a knock-down, drag-out Pier 6 brawl. A real donnybrook and slobber-knocker! Good night, Irene. That's all she wrote!" Except with fart jokes.

Q: What is your biggest inspiration / your biggest motivator in your career as a comedian/ actors/ actress?
I watch videos of previous performances, some from when I first started. They make me cringe and want to do better. I should really try this in the bedroom, too.
Q: Are you a naturally funny person in everyday life, offstage?
My wife says "no."

Q: What's next for you after the Kings and Queen of Comedy Asia?
I'll be continuing my world tour with stops in South Korea and South Africa. But first up is a stop in Las Vegas. Or "South Nevada", to keep up with the theme.

Q:  If any of your fans were interested in trying to be a comedian, where would you recommend and how they can begin?

Don't start with comedy right away. Work your way up to completely disappointing your parents. But if you must, get to any and every open mic you can. The only way to do it is to do it, and often. I know guys who would get up at movie theaters before the film starts to try their material on a captive crowd.

Q: Would you like to send a message to your Malaysian fans?

You guys were awesome the last time I was there, and some of the best crowds I've ever had, anywhere. Can't wait to do it all over again. Also, can I borrow some money?

I'm very excited as I'm going to watch the show tonight! :)

Kings & Queens of Comedy Asia is back!

My dearest readers, prepare to laugh your hearts out!

Why?

The “Kings and Queen of Comedy Asia” (K&Q) is back on 18 & 19 November 2011 bringing the best Asian comedy talents from around the world.

The inaugural show in October 2010 was the first of its kind and a runaway success with sold out shows in the Plenary Hall, KLCC and Singapore Conference Hall. The show was a full production with launch and closing gambit, multimedia integration, high-definition live feed, lights and sound extravaganza.
The event was a major hit with highly positive feedback from both the public and media. The comedians thoroughly entertained the crowd and surprisingly, people had different takes on who they found funniest on the night – with all 5 comedians receiving almost equal kudos for tickling their fancies.
This year, we are presenting 5 major comics – led by comedy superstar Sugar Sammy from Canada, the funniest Japanese American you will have ever known, Paul Ogata and Chinese-English speaking funny man Vivek Mahbubani from Hong Kong. Harith Iskander, our proudest comedy export who aims to go global in 2012 will be representing Malaysia and hosted by none other than the divalicious Joanne Kam.

Sugar Sammy
We have an impressive line up consisting of Sugar Sammy who can do comedy in fluent English, French, Punjabi and Hindi. His HBO Canada was one of the network’s highest rated TV Special.
Paul Ogata
Paul Ogata is probably the funniest comedian ever to step on The Comedy Club Asia stage. He has recently fine-tuned his performance and created a monster set that makes audiences everywhere cry with laughter.
Vivek Mahbubani
Vivek Mahbubani who has won stand-up comedy competitions for both English and Chinese category and is now one of the biggest faces of comedy in Hong Kong.
 Harith Iskander
Harith Iskander is the first Malaysian comedian who is deemed “ready for the world stage” after successfully performing in front of a global audience multiple times. A comedian’s material needs to mature to a point where can be accepted by multiple types of audience before embarking on a world tour.
 Joanne Kam
Joanne Kam, is one of the very few Asian female stand-up comic who has carved a career in this male dominated industry. Even last year’s Queen, Kumar from Singapore, is a drag queen and not female.
