JustNorahs Interview with King Of Comedy Asia 2, Vivek Mahbubani

Another "King" from the "Kings and Queen of Comedy Asia 2" is the funniest Chinese person in Hong Kong... an Indian, Vivek Mahbuban

Vivek Mahbuban shocking the audience when he throws in his fluent Cantonese during English sets and vice versa. I was impressed by his fluent Cantonese during the sneak preview at the press conference of "Kings and Queen of Comedy Asia 2" ! :O

Q:  Tell us a little about your upcoming performance at Kings and Queen of Comedy Asia? What can Malaysians look forward to?

Kings and Queens of Comedy Asia will be my first time performing in Malaysia. The audience can look forward to hearing stories about me growing up amongst Chinese people who thought I was an Alien rather than Asian and how my ability to speak and understand Cantonese creates trouble (but funny trouble) for everyone.

Q: What is your biggest inspiration / your biggest motivator in your career as a comedian/ actors/ actress?

My biggest inspiration was when I started watching stand up comedy as a kid without realizing what it really was. To see a person hold a mic and just rely on his/her voice and the audience's imagination, and have the ability to make you laugh was like a miracle I wanted to experience personally. Then I started watching a lot of sitcoms like Seinfeld, Golden Girls, Home Improvement, Fresh Prince of Bela-ir, etc which made me love comedy even more. But ultimately, it's just knowing that I'm doing something that I love that keeps me motivated.

Q: Are you a naturally funny person in everyday life, offstage?

I don't consider myself naturally funny, but I'm easily bored. So if I see something over and over again, I get bored of it and in order to get myself to keep seeing the same thing, I'd come up with new angles/funny ways of seeing it, to keep myself entertained in the process. And somehow comedy finds its way into the mix.
Q: What's next for you after the Kings and Queen of Comedy Asia?

I'll be back to Hong Kong headlining gigs at TakeOut Comedy and off to Singapore for shows and will try to squeeze as many Ha Ha Ha's out of people before Christmas's Ho Ho Ho! takes over.

Q:  If any of your fans were interested in trying to be a comedian, where would you recommend and how they can begin?

Just believe in yourself. Even if you don't think you're a funny person, believe you can be funny. Being funny is an art rather than an in-born gift. The best way to start is to request yourself to start noticing interesting things in life, and from there, you'll find the funny in things over time.

Q: Would you like to send a message to your Malaysian fans?

Thank you for supporting comedy and coming out to have a great time! The more energy you have, the more energy the comedians will have and once the laughter starts, it's contagious but not lethal, so don't hold back! After all, no refunds! :)
